Abstract

Petroleum resources of the Kara Sea may represent an important part of future petroleum production. Nowadays the area is partly studied because of difficult nature-climatic conditions. Two petroleum zones are established there. These are: the South Kara gas-bearing region with proved industrial gas capacity in Cretaceous deposits and the prospective West Kara oil and gas area. Researching based on the drilling available data of Yamal peninsula oil fields and geological modeling results gives an opportunity to establish several petroleum systems in Mezo-Cainozoic deposits of the region. These are prospects – Paleozoic and Triassic, and established – Lower-Middle Jurassic, Upper Jurassic – Lower Cretaceous and Albian-Cenomanian.
