Abstract

Mining waste deposits appears today as one of the biggest environmental problems, whose solving request a complex and multidisciplinary approach in order to be solved. As a result of industrial development coupled with uncontrolled growth of the urban population, large areas were contaminated with different types of liquid/solid residues, affecting the equilibrium in ecological systems. Geophysical investigations performed on Valea Mica waste dump offered a general image about its structure and the variation of some physical parameters. The analysis of seismic and resistivity data showed good correlation. Integrating the results, the contact between the waste dump body and the natural formations was delineated and also the calculation of the volume was possible. Taking into account these considerations another application of geoelectrical and seismic methods on waste dump deposits was emphasized.
