Abstract
In this work I report on the progress of a novel approach used to determine the presence of hydrocarbons based upon seismic attenuation. By means of numerical modelling, I investigate the possibility of using the viscous fluid relaxation properties of heterogeneous reservoir porous rocks to detect hydrocarbons. The key ideas of this approach are to stimulate the reservoir rocks via a pilot signal and then to quantify the anelastic effects by rneans of tracking waves.
