Abstract

Quaternary Karacadag Basalts, spread out most part of South East Anatolia and adversely affecting seismic reflection quality. The degree of quality change is depending upon the thickness of basalt layer and is not due to the energy radiation problems on areas where lateral variations of topography and thickness of basalt are high. Rapid changes in thickness and velocity variations of the overlaying basalt will influence static corrections whereas high thickness of basalt close to the earth surface will cause velocity inversions during NMO-corrections.
