f Development of a 3D Modelling and Visualization Database of the Deep Subsurface of the Netherlands - Mapsheet III (Groningen) - a Pilot Study

The Netherlands Institute of Applied Geoscience TNO is the curator for almost all subsurface data of the Netherlands. For the deep subsurface, these data are published in the form of mapsheets. The mapsheets each cover about 4800km² and present the existing subsurface lithostratigraphic formations as depth and thickness maps on paper. In August 1997 the Netherlands Institute of Applied Geoscience TNO started a project which will, ultimately, lead to the amalgamation of all Mapsheet information into a 3D subsurface model of the Dutch subsurface that can be visualised from CD-ROM or Internet.
