Abstract
The results from basin modelling studies nowadays are widely used to aid the management in oil companies to make drilling decisions. A critical step in basin modelling is the reconstruction, and calibration of the thermal history in a sedimentary basin with reference data (measured data). Another important aspect is the use of quantitative and physical models that describe the basin formation as a pure shear extension of the lithosphere (LSM - lithospheric stretching models). This type of model can be successfully applied both in modelling subsidence pattern in extensional setting and in estimating the thermal evolution during the syn- and post-rift phases.
