Abstract
The main oil-producing source rock in the Danish Central Trough is the uppermost Jurassic - lowermost Cretaceous Farsund Formation. The formation consists of laminated, organic-rich, dark grey to black claystones, siltstones and thin turbiditic sandstones. It is widely distributed in the Danish and Norwegian offshore areas, and is equivalent to the Kimmeridge Clay Formation in the UK sector of the North Sea.
