There are a number of 3D geological modeling software packages available. Surprisingly, most of them use completely different grid representation methods. While users typically judge such tools and techniques by the functionality available, this functionality and extensions thereof are almost exclusively controlled by the particular grid representation method used. This paper will describe the details of each technique and their advantages and disadvantages.
