f Free-surface multiple removal - Conjectures and refutations

In the last decade the removal of free surface multiples has become a pressing topic for research in exploration geophysics. The push for this development has come from the need to perform accurate pre-stack migration in areas with complex structures and large lateral velocity variations. In these areas post-stack migration is insufficiently precise to provide accurate imaging, and migration must be tackled pre-stack.
