Abstract

A new method to remove coherent noise from multichannel seismic data is proposed. The method consists of two steps. During the first step the multichannel data in the form of a NMO-corrected gather, is transformed into a new gather through the use of a novel process Galled Cyclic Sampling . The process is based upon selecting samples in certain positions along lines crossing the gather. The selection-scheme is based upon the noise-characteristics, and the total process makes sure that all initial samples are selected and reordered into a new trace-gather; a transformed gather. Here the primary events will still exhibit horisontal consistency across the traces. However, events that were not horisontally lined up on the NMO-corrected gather, will now have their energy distributed in a different manner. For example the characteristics of multiple events will undergo a considerable change in the transformed gather.
