Abstract
In principle, nonlinear inversion that finds the distribution of elastic parameters in the Earth whose synthetic data best matches the observed data is an ideal inversion. All seismic wave phenomena such as reflected waves, mode-conversions, refracted waves, transmitted waves, Rayleigh waves etc. are used to obtain the inversion result.
