Abstract

The transmission of compressional waves through a stack of acoustic or elastic layers is investigated with respect to the influence and behaviour of certain scattering mechanisms at offset. At the chosen model depth of 5 km the transmitted signals are nearly identical for corresponding plane and spherical waves. This result facilitates the modelling and allows the description of the scattering properties of an interface by a fixed set of reflection and transmission coefficients.
