Abstract

When seismic waves propagate through a fluid-saturated sedimentary material, relative fluid flow is induced to some degree. The driving force for the relative flow is a combination of wavelength scale pressure gradients set up by the peaks and troughs of a compressional wave and by grain accelerations (both compressional and shear waves accelerate the grafins and, therefore, both generate relative flow).
