Abstract

AVO is today regarded as an important technique in the seismic industry because of its potential ability to find hydrocarbons directly from seismic data. The reflection coefficients as a function of angle (or offset) are determined by the Zoeppritz equations or approximations thereof. Examples of such approximations have been made by Aki and Richards (1980) and Shuey (1985) using a small contrast assumption.
