Abstract
Summary
We discuss the robustness of Joint Migration Inversion (JMI), which is a combined imaging and velocity estimation scheme for seismic reflection data that takes into account primaries and all multiples. The JMI algorithm aims at estimating a smooth velocity model that accurately represents the kinematics of the data as well as a structural image that accurately describes the amplitudes of the data. Due to this separation of kinematics from amplitudes, convergence of the algorithm is not strongly dependent on the initial model. In addition to this, the full wavefield modeling scheme grants the algorithm a robustness with respect to strong multiple reflections in the data.
