Abstract

The framework of biostratigraphy consists of consecutive fossil events in geological time. It can be argued that the 'true' sequence of consecutive events wilt always be elusive. As a substitute for biostratigraphic practice, 'standard' sequences of events are compiled by various methods. With appropriate software, a probabilistic standard events sequence can be compiled from a large number of stratigraphic sections, i.e. wells or surface exposures.
