Abstract
The Great Ancona Landslide is located in the Italian Adriatic coast, immediately westward of the harbour city of Ancona and interests an area of about 3.5 km2, with a landslide front of about 2 km. (Figure IA). It is an ancient landslide, its occurrence being known since 1700. In recent times, the most severe event took place on December 13th 1982, when a densely built section of the city was involved in the eastern part of the landslide.
