Abstract

This article is concerned with the Pliocene-Quaternary channelling systems of the South Caspian Basin. The 3D seismic cubes have been interpreted within the deeper part of the SCB to map channelling systems. Root Mean Square amplitude attributes are calculated in defined time intervals to delineate the hidden channelling features. Meandering and linear channelling geometries are detected which signify variations within the sedimentary basin. Also, trend of the detected channels have not been changed by folds or mud volcanoes and NE-SW trending channels were predominantly formed prior to younger deformation. Study of channels is important in prevention of drilling hazards due to trapped leaked gas
