Abstract
In this work we propose an efficient and scalable parallel Chebyshev pseudo-spectral method for large scale 3D seismic forward modelling. The Multidomain Block Decomposition method divides the whole computational domain into a large number of subdomains. On these subdomains the pseudospectral Chebyshev operator is applied locally. Thereby the global character of a pseudospectral operator is avoided and the method makes efficient and scalable implementations possible. The overlap implicitly ensures continuity of the field variables without complicated coupling schemes. We implement a parallel version of the method in order to obtain sufficient high frequencies. The method and the implementation are tested with various setups and the scalability is demonstrated.
