Abstract

The diffractor imaging may be complimentory to conventional refrection imaging and useful for seismic interpretation. The faults, discontinuities and salt inclusions are scattering objects which are of interest for seismic exploration. In this paper the method of cross-correlation stacking is proposed for diffractor location near boreholes using VSP data. The method is well suited for imaging of scattering objects when the overburden is complex and even unknown. Also we present the technique of NMO enhancement of the diffracted waves which is found to be helpful in the case of weak scatterer in stratified medium.
