Abstract
The microseismic events generated as a result of the steam treatment of a reservoir were monitored. The inflation of the reservoir was monitored by a pressure sensor in a neighbouring well and featured some rapid fluctuations as some of the microseismicity migrated out of zone representing a loss of steam chamber containment. The signature of this strain in and above the reservoir is encoded in the microseismic waveforms themselves. We show that using higher-order seismic source parameters that the deformation conditions indicated by the downhole pressure sensor is reflected in the cumulative strain, stress and the relative energy release of the events. This work suggests that deformation in the reservoir can be directly related to changes in the seismic waveforms.
