Abstract

Based on a combined tectonic events analysis and FMI data interpretation, a probable model to illustrate the fracture development mechanism in the west tip of Sinjar uplift has been proposed. The result shows that fracture development mechanism has close relationship with deep faults. The trending of fractures developed in the shallow strata has the characteristic of switching anticlockwise from bottom to top, which influenced by the strike-slip activity of deep faults. This model can be used to predict the possible fracture distribution, that fractures are mainly developed in the corresponding place where deep strike-slip faults existed. We believe our model of fracture development mechanism will provide evidence for finding high quality reservoir; thereby contribute to the oil producing.
