Abstract

This paper is intended to recommend future directions for improved seismic acquisition at Greater Burgan Field and similar fields and set reasonable expectations in terms of imaging, resolution and reservoir characterization. The proposed seismic acquisition would simulate a square template with maximum inline and crossline ofset of 6,000 m and 100 m source and receiver lines interval using single receivers and single vibrator source both spaced at 5 m. Improved results are expected from this proposed high-density, long offsets and full-azimuth data set through the application of simultaneous inversion of refracted and surface waves and additional processing methodologies that include advanced noise attenuation techniques and sophisticated isotropic prestack depth migration. However, as the logs, synthetics, VSP and Walkway VSP show a quite Wara-Burgan interval and success in interbed multiple attenuation is still a challenge, expectations of field development geoscientist has to be reduced to a realistic level
