Abstract

Remaining development opportunities in the Southern Gas Basin of the North Sea are mostly confined to lower permeability sandstones and pose significant technical execution challenges and cost hurdles. Field operators have increasingly had to rely upon the adoption of multiple fractured, horizontal wells to achieve commercial rates, deploying completion practises that historically evolved in chalk oil fields in Denmark and Norway and materials honed in the recent technology-enabled opening up of shale plays across North America. The presentation will summarise activities of the most active operator in recent years in the Southern Gas Basin.
