Abstract

Summary

Geophysical methods rely on the accurate determination of physical and mechanical properties of rocks. However, these properties are intimately related to microscopic features such as pore shape and distribution, grain orientations, degree of saturation and fluid distribution. The present contribution reports the development and the preliminary results obtained with two new high pressure vessels which are paired with a X-ray micro-CT system to investigate the influence of fluid distribution and microstructural features on the physical and mechanical properties of rocks, and in particular on seismic wave attenuation and dynamic moduli.
