Abstract
In this study, we suggest a simple velocity inversion and event relocation algorithms for microseismic monitoring. We use a simple 1D velocity model to reduce computing time and cost. The governing equations for the forward problem can properly handle the turning rays. So, we can use the information of any receivers regardless of offset distances. We also develop a 3D event relocation algorithm by exploiting 2D algorithm. We transform 3D structure to pseudo 2D structure using offset distances and apply 2D event relocation algorithm. After that, we can find the 3D coordinates of event through an additional inverse problem using updated offset distances. We verify our algorithm by applying it to a field data set. Considering the efficiency of our algorithm, it is expected that it can be successfully applied for real microseismic monitoring.
