Abstract

Summary

In this case study, a Maximum Reservoir Contact (MRC) had multiple objectives to achieve in a 3ft thick limestone layer.

First it needed to detect the high risk water zones.

Second, the areas with high Gas Oil Ratio (GOR) needed to be identified and avoided

Third, that thin layer needed to fall within a certain permeability range.

Fourth, the geology is uncertain with fast changing dip and faults.

Several technologies were combined including a first in the UAE, the ElectroMagnetic (EM) images in Oil Based

Mud OBM, to resolve for all these challenges and deliver a successful 13000ft long horizontal.
