Abstract

Over the years there has been a tendency for papers to be presented that are designed for the expert in the field. This paper is, however, designed for the skilled practitioner who is exposed to the process of twodimensional filtering in the course of his routine exploration project. For many in this position there is inadequate time to learn all the intricacies behind the final presented data, and it is the aim of this paper to explain those factors which are critical in the understanding and evaluation of the results. We are thinking primarily of geologists and those physicists who were at college before Fourier techniques moved from the mathematical department.
