Abstract

In the autumn of 1988 a 2-km long seismic reflection profile was shot over Precambrian sedimentary rocks in the province of Dalarna in central Sweden. One of the main objectives of the experiment was to determine whether the seismic reflection method could be used to map the contact zone between the sedimentary rock and the underlying crystalline bedrock. As will be discussed briefly in this paper, it was possible to approximately determine the depth to the contact zone by recognizing the change in character in the reflected energy between the sedimentary rock and the crystalline basement.
