The Trans-Witwatersrand Basin Deep Seismic Reflection profile (Geol.<br>Survey of Rep. of S. Africa, open file) adds a new dimension to the<br>Vredefort controversy (hypothesis: astrobleme, internally derived<br>catastrophe, tectonic origin). In principie, such a profile could<br>resolve this uncertainty, but the resolution is as yet not sufficient to<br>remove all ambiguity.
