Abstract

This paper focuses on solutions to the access and storage problems faced by seismic interpreters wishing to usc a mixture of both new (perhaps 3-D) and old (perhaps 2-0) seismic data on a workstation. Access problems include lack of digital data, variations in processing across surveys, and inaccurate or missing location data. Such problems can be remedied by the appropriate scanning, vectorising, reprocessing and data reconciliation methods. Storage still largely relies on magnetic tape media, with all the attendant problems. CD-ROM's can provide a random access archive using universally recognised software standards and inexpensive hardware. Data can be retrieved on a wide variety of hardware platforms using existing software. This enables the required seismic profiles to be extracted quickly and efficiently from a set of CD-ROM's and converted into workstation formal. Three case histories are reviewed to show how this type of integrated approach can be used successfully in a real exploration environment.
