Abstract

D-25 3D TURNING-RAY TOMOGRAPHY IN A REAL CASE Summary 1 In this paper the authors applied the 3D turning ray tomography for estimating near-surface velocity field in an area characterized by rough topography and lateral velocity variations where conventional refraction methods failed. We applied our tomographic procedure which uses an efficient ray tracing technique based on minimum time principle and the staggered grids methods. The velocity cube obtained from the inversion has been used for defining the shallower part of the area interested by the Seismic While Drilling (SWD) acquisition.
