E-25 AVO ANALYSIS BY PATCH TEMPLATE CORRELATION 1 Abstract Amplitude variation with offset (or angle of incidence) measurements (AVO) usually are interpreted in terms of Zoeppritz reflection coefficients a plane wave and sharp plane interface concept. In this paper we provide a generalization that deals with more complicated situations. We call our analysis procedure the Patch Template Correlation method (PTC). We also show what lateral resolution can be obtained in determining the reflection coefficients. The PTC method may be thought of as combining Kirchhoff migration concepts with standard AVO/AVA. It is based on three considerations:- (1) Modeling the reflecting horizon
