Abstract

The sedimentation in the foreland basin of South Carpathian Foreland started in the Upper Cretaceous and consists of two of deposits, continental and marine deposits . The range of interest is Oligocene – Burdigalian interval. The Oligocene is characterised by marine upper slope and outer shelf sediments with diamictic intercalations, caused by tectonic events. The Aquitanian shows a series of coarsening up cycles, offshore-shoreface and lagunar transitions being controlled by climate. Over these deposits, Burdigalian deltaic and fluvial sediments are superimposed. The main tectonic events which controlled the sedimentation took place in Oligocene and Burdigalian.
