Abstract

Dankbaar (1985) described a method of separating P and SV waves from two component (vertical and in-line horizontal) seismic data recorded at a free surface. The method works in the f-k domain and the P and SV wavefields are linear combinations of the f-k transformed horizontal and vertical recorded components. It assumes that all the energy is one of these wave types and that it all travels in-plane, and requires estimates of the near-surface P and S velocities and density. Otherwise few assumptions are made and the method is reasonably insensitive to errors in the near-surface parameters. Furthermore the computer time required is small.
