Abstract

Laboratory measurement of shear and compressional wave velocity and attenuation have a role in characterising the rock mass and understanding geological processes if they can be related to the in-situ geology. If these measurements can be made under in-situ conditions then it is possible to relate geophysical field surveys to petrophysical properties, and rock / fluid interactions, (Yale, 1985).
