Abstract
The importance of shear wave velocities in the study of direct hydrocarbon indicators (such as seismic AVO trends) has been shown to be crucial. Unfortunately , shear velocities are in general poorly understood. It is the aim of this paper to show that shear velocities in consolidated sediments can be modeled with simple concepts.
