Abstract

This paper describes the advantages that are gained by extending FX spabal prediction filtering to 3D . First of all we give an outlne of spatial prediction filtering, pointing out its detrimental effects in certain cases . It is then shown how a tree 3D version of the method (FXY prediction) performs better in all respects, with examples given using synthetic data. Results with real data show the ability of 3D spatial prediction filtering to reduce random noise with little distortion of the geology.
