Blending Finite Elements and Finite Volumes for the Solution of Miscible Incompressible Flow

High accuracy triangle based mixed finite element schemes have been coupled with finite volume schemes on structured and unstructured grids for the solution of miscible incompressible flow. The effectiveness of this coupling for the prediction of complex flow features when physical heterogeneities are present is assessed for test cases representative of field scale computations.
