Abstract

While doing history matching of historical and simulated data, permeability and porosity distributions are usually used as matching parameters. There may be cases when a field shape makes greatest impact on history match. Then geometrical parameters of the field have to be used. In this paper the optimal control theory technique is applied to the problem of identifying reservoir depths and layer thicknesses using the depths of the grid corner points as matching parameters. The problem statement and the method to solve it are presented. The method is illustrated by a test case study.
