Abstract

Theoretical models on alluvial architecture (Allen, 1978 ; Bridge and Leeder, 1979) offer a framework by which fundamental properties such as sandstone body geometries, sandstone content and lateral and vertical connectedness can be understood and related to principal sedimentological and structural parameters that governs the stratigraphic development of a basinal area. Comparison of relevant subsurface data with such models can be of value in predicting the reservoir potential of alluvial deposits.
