Abstract

This study investigates the extent to which the assumption of constant phase data impact on the results of pre-stack simultaneous inversion. The well-tie procedure provides a means of estimating stationary phase wavelets. Statistical phase estimation techniques capable of estimating non-stationary phase can be used to phase-correct the seismic data to zero phase. Synthetic seismic volumes will be created with non-stationary phase. The results of pre-stack simultaneous inversion will be compared for data that account for non-stationary phase with data that rely on the stationary phase wavelets from the seismic-to-well tie. The implication of this study is that pre-stack simultaneous inversion can now be performed without the drilling of a well.
