Abstract

Trappean magmatism occurred on all the continents of the earth at different times ranging from 150 to 300 million years ago. The intrusion of the body of the molten basaltic rock into the sedimentary cover could result in the destruction of hydrocarbon accumulations and oil and gas deposits burning-out as well as the acceleration of the organic substance maturation. The determination of the extent of catagenetic transformation of the oil-source rock is an important element when evaluating the prospects oil-and-gas content in any area. This work analyzes the problem of the traps which erupted onto the surface. The work purpose is to get the numerical evaluation of the width of the metamorphic zone in the sedimentary rock that underlie the traps and to determine the dependence of the width on different factors. The task solution included the modeling of the process of sedimentary accumulation and the thermal effect caused by the molten basalt erupted onto the sedimentary rock surface.
