Abstract
The Rio Del Rey Basin, West Africa spans the countries of Nigeria, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea and has produced over 1 billion barrels of oil to date. The basin shares similar stratigraphy to that of the Niger Delta with most production from the highly productive fluvio-deltaic Agbada Formation ( Coughlin et al, 1993 ). Exploration and development of the basin has been ongoing since the wildcat wells of the 1970’s to present day, with exploration focused upon exploiting the highly productive, lower risk, less technically challenging, Agbada plays. There has been limited exploration within the deeper, technically and operationally complex Isongo (Isongo Marine Field, Cameroon & Alba Field, Equatorial Guinea), Nguti and Oongue (Oongue Marine Field) plays.
This extended abstract will review the petroleum system of the Eastern Rio Del Rey (ERDR) Basin and comment upon prospective, underexplored plays within this world class, highly productive hydrocarbon basin.
