Airborne Mapping and Environmental Geophysics with a Fixed-wing Frequency-domain Electromagnetic System

Abstract
High resolution airborne frequency-domain electromagnetic (FDEM) surveys have been proven in Finland and Ireland to be an effective mapping tool. The combination of FDEM, magnetic and gamma-ray spectrometry have been used for decades for mapping geology and have proven effective over a wide range of geology. With the advent of improved processing and inversion tools, the power of method combinations is quickly improveing. More recently these data have been applied to many environmental and geotechnical applications, including aquifer mapping, identifying plumes and liquid transport pathways, and delineation of salt water incursion into aquifers. These characteristics of the EM system are demonstrated through models and case histories from both mapping and environmental applications.
