Abstract
Summary
In this study, we present new data on shallow gas-bearing sediments in the Kandalaksha Gulf (the White Sea) that were acquired using 2D/3D very-high-resolution seismic observations (150-1500 Hz), in-situ ultrasound (100 kHz) and geochemical measurements on the extracted sea bottom samples. Overall, the presented complex of seismic and non-seismic methods seems plausible for near-surface characterization. In particular, it can be applied during the site surveys for identification of geological hazards associated with near-surface gas pockets.
