Abstract
Penglai 19-3 Oilfield is the largest oilfield found in China's offshore area. For the exploration engineers, it is very keen to find another“Penglai 19-3 oilfield”.However, with the increasing of exploration degree, the exploration in Bohai bay basin faces new challenges. The number and the size of the traps continue to decrease, meanwhile the exploration space and operation freedom were greatly compressed by the Bohai sea and its surrounding shipping, fishery and so on. Therefore, it is very important to find new structure and exploration area around Penglai 19-3 oilfield. We propose a novel subtle strike-slip faults identification that combine structure oriented filtering with fault likelihood attribute. Thus, we can achieve some subtle strike-slip faults and micro faults which cannot identified by conventional methods. We use the proposed approach in the vicinity of Penglai 19-3 oilfield, achieved very good results.New subtle strike-slip faults were recognized in the east of Penglai 19-3 oilfield, and the successful drilling of PLA-2-6 well deploying at its lower levels upgraded 6.48 million tons of proven oil reserves. With the development of the technique in this paper, a number of new structural traps will be discovered in Bohai oilfield, and has important reference values in other oilfields.
