3-D Geophysical Reservoir Monitoring Using Surface-Reservoir Controlled Source Electromagnetics
Authors Gary W. McNeice and Daniele X. ColomboGeophysical monitoring of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) is a rapidly growing field and there are a number of products and solutions available. Electromagnetic (EM) techniques are promising for EOR monitoring because of the large dependence of electrical resistivity on fluid saturation.

Sub-basalt Imaging Using Broadband Magnetotellurics in Northwest Saudi Arabia
Authors Daniele X. Colombo, Gary W. McNeice and Timothy H. KehoExploratory drilling and coring in the northwest of Saudi Arabia has revealed two distinct igneous rock suites, late Devonian (360 Ma) and late Cretaceous (76-82 Ma). The Devonian sills are significant intrusive events that were caused by extensional and compressional tectonics.

Evaporite Depositional Systems: Is the Past the Key to the Present?
More LessArea plots of the world’s Phanerozoic and Neoproterozoic evaporite deposits, using a GIS base, shows that Quaternary evaporite deposits are poor counterparts to the greater portion of the world’s Phanerozoic evaporite seals. They are only directly relevant to same-scale same-climate continental lacustrine hydrologies of the past and, as such, can be used to better understand what is needed to create widespread salt beds rich in Na2SO4, NaCO3, borate and lithium salts.

Building Petroleum Geoscience Competency to Meet Local and Global Demand through Industry — Academia Partnership: A Malaysian Perspective
More LessThe future of geoscience in Malaysia, and elsewhere globally, is contingent on the availability of competent, young geologists and geophysicists to replace retiring technical professionals in the petroleum industry. Recognising this, the University of Malaya in 2005 initiated a taught Petroleum Geology MSc programme to address the need.

Components and Processes Impacting Production Success from Unconventional Shale Resource Systems
Authors Daniel M. Jarvie, Brian M. Jarvie, David Weldon and Albert MaendeUnconventional shale resource systems can provide massive energy reserves for gas and oil if developed properly and soundly. Development of these systems has evolved rapidly over the past decade in North America, although it took 30 years to reach such a level.
