Abstract

Combination of shear wave velocity, P-wave velocity and density logs allows the calculation of rock property and elastic constants (Poisson’s ratio, Bulk modulus, Rigidity modulus, Lame’s constant and Young’s modulus) of formations. AVO modeling is sensitive to the accuracy of shear wave velocity. The absence of recorded shear-wave data causes several limitations in seismic interpretation, calculation of elastic parameters and AVO modeling. In this study, the availability of high-quality shear sonic provides a unique opportunity of testing and comparing measured and calculated S-wave logs on the rock physics and AVO modeling.
