C-36 USING NONLINEAR VELOCITY OPTIMIZATION TECHNIQUES FOR 2D AND 3D IMAGING OF GEOTHERMAL FIELDS Abstract 1 Velocity optimization algorithms are effective for deriving a globally optimal tomographic solution using different attributes of seismic data. Apart from the data it requires no other a priori data as input. Also nonlinear velocity optimization assumes no magnitude or direction of the subsurface velocity gradient. Thus it is most useful in areas characterized by complex geology such as extreme lateral velocity variations and topography typical of geothermal fields around the world. Since the method determines velocity automatically and has the capability of batch processing
